How does it work?

Real ID uses machine learning technology to identify the authenticity of your IDs.

Your will be sent a unique URL to your mobile device by email and SMS. This link opens a secure, encrypted connection to allow the customer to upload a photo of your ID.

Once we receive the image, our combination of OCR (optical recognition technology) and image recognition will determine if the ID is legitimate.

Why does The Pretty Hot Mess require you to submit a headshot with your ID photo?

By requiring a live headshot (a screen shot of photo will result in a failed ID check and is not accepted) of the ID document owner with the ID document, we can verify the photos match.

For example, even if a bad actor had possession of a stolen credit card and matching license - they would not be able to trick face matching to identify them.

We use video liveness tests to verify that the photos are legitimate and not taken from social media or other online sources.

How are the uploading of IDs and photos secured?

Real ID encrypts the connection from the customers mobile devices. This protects their data from being intercepted by bad actors.

Real ID stores the customer's ID and headshot securely in their encrypted  database.

You can request that your ID and photos be deleted after each verification, however you will be required to complete the ID verification with each applicable purchase.

How much does it cost?

This is free to the customer. 

Can I request to have my ID deleted after they have been verified?

Protecting our customers privacy is very important to us. That's why we offer an option in any ID check to delete your photos safely and permanently.

You can be rest assured that your IDs will be wiped after we've verified your ID.

What kind of information can The Pretty Hot Mess see?

Real ID automatically reads the text on any given document. Depending on the level of detail the document provides we can expect to read data such as:

  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Address
  • Age
  • City
  • State
  • Issuing Country of the ID
  • Issuing State of the ID
  • Unique License or Document ID

The Pretty Hot Mess uses these pieces of information to verify that the customer is qualified for the purchase. Or that their billing & shipping information matches their ID.

What types of purchases trigger an ID check?
  • Total Order Price - any order over $400 to prevent fraud and unauthorized transactions
  • Mistmatching Shipping to Billing Address - if an order's shipping and billing address do not match, it's a sign of potential credit card fraud. Real ID can automatically verify these orders.
  • High risk - if an order is detected as medium or high risk by Shopify or other 3rd party anti-fraud apps, trigger an ID verification check.
  • Certain Products - any hemp flower, vape, Delta, or HHC product will require an ID verification. There are certain states that do not permit these products to be shipped to, by verifying the shipping address, the customer acknowledges that the items they are purchasing are legal to purchase and use in their state. 

Why do you require my signature?

According to the Federal PACT act  Starting March 26th, 2021, USPS is requiring an adult signature for all deliveries of vape products. This means that you being 21+ that lives at the address noted on your legal ID has to show valid ID and sign for your order and products. 

Yes, easy & intuitive electronic signatures are available in Real ID. You can enable signature captures for ID verification checks. You'll be able to view and download your customers signatures right in the dashboard.
